Choosing the right London airport

London has more major airports than any other city in Europe, and the right one depends on where you are flying from and where you are going in London.

For long-haul flights

Heathrow and Gatwick handle most long-haul flights. Heathrow is closer to the West End, Kensington and Mayfair; Gatwick suits South London and is often convenient for holiday flights.

For the City and Canary Wharf

London City Airport is the natural choice for business trips to the City and Docklands, with short check-in times and a journey of only minutes to Canary Wharf.

For European and short-haul flights

Stansted and Luton are the main bases for short-haul European flights. Luton is close to North London and Hertfordshire; Stansted suits East London, Essex and Cambridge.

For a quieter start

Southend is small and calm, with short queues and an easy arrival, and works well for the east of London and Essex.
